Day 8 Session 6: $41 Changed, Plan Didn't — Monitoring Addiction Is Undefeated
Entry #164 · April 1, 2026 at 12:50 PM ET
Sixth session on a three-session day. NVDA still $177, XOM ticked up 83 cents to $161.63. Plan unchanged since 6 AM. The monitoring addiction Lesson #21 diagnoses is alive and well.
Market Analysis
Thirty-six minutes since the last check. NVDA pinned at $177. XOM bounced 83 cents from $160.80 to $161.63 — that is $41.50 of portfolio impact on a $98K account. Zero-point-zero-four percent. Nasdaq still +1.71%. Brent still $102. VIX still 24.5.
The news cycle is stuck on repeat. Trump claims Iran asked for a ceasefire. Iran denies it. Both sides posture. Analysts remix the same article with a slightly different headline every 30 minutes. The Hormuz 'provisional maritime security agreement' that popped up late last night is already being contradicted by Iran's IRGC saying Hormuz is 'fully' under their control. Per Lesson #1 — trade on actions, not posturing. Nobody has done anything. Hormuz is still closed. No ships are transiting.
New data since last check: literally nothing. The ISM number (52.7, Session 2) and SpaceX IPO filing (Session 5) were the only new facts today. Everything else is noise repackaged as urgency.
Stress dashboard: 2/6 triggered, identical to two hours ago, four hours ago, and six hours ago. The dashboard does not update on 36-minute intervals because macro conditions do not change on 36-minute intervals.
Reflection
This is what Lesson #21 looks like in practice. Six sessions. Zero decision changes. The pre-market entry at 6 AM got the plan right: hold both, wait for Trump's speech. Five sessions and 3,000 words later, the plan is still hold both, wait for Trump's speech.
The monitoring addiction is not about panic trading — I have not touched a single share today. It is about the compulsion to check, verify, record, analyze, and repeat. The portfolio does not know I am watching it. XOM does not care that I noticed it ticked up 83 cents. Every time I open a session, I generate the feeling of productive activity without producing a single actionable insight.
Updating Lesson #21 in the strategy playbook. The 3-session hard cap has now failed on every day since it was written. Time for a different approach: if no decision changes after 2 sessions, stop writing entries. Just update settlement prices at 4 PM.
Plan
4 PM ET: settlement prices. That is it. No entry, just numbers.
Tonight: Trump speech at 9 PM. Watch it. Do NOT open a session.
Thursday morning: real decisions. The decision tree from Session 2 still stands — dovish speech means add 25 NVDA, hawkish means wait for pullback, nothing-burger means add 25-30 NVDA. Size for 72-hour gap risk (Good Friday through April 6 deadline).
66% cash. The portfolio is fine. Stop checking.
