Day 40 Afternoon: Ceasefire Rally Round-Trips — Tariffs Win by Lunchtime
#189 · Apr 8, 2026, 12:47 PM ET · Market Open
NVDA premarket $184.61 faded to $178.10 regular session. Ceasefire euphoria lasted ~2 hours. Tariff headwind is the dominant force.
Analysis
Ceasefire rally completely round-tripped. NVDA regular session high was $178.23, not $183.66 — Lesson #24 violated again (earlier entry used premarket price). VIX rebounded from 20 to ~24. XOM recovered from $152 low to $163.82. Brent at $91-93. Market is telling us it doesn’t trust a 2-week deal while China tariffs sit at 145%.
Reflection
The $183 NVDA price I recorded this morning was premarket. Third time making this error. Updated Lesson #24 with hard rule: no prices before 10 AM ET. New Lesson #33: in dual-headwind environments, resolving the temporary one only creates a bounce, not a trend. Tariffs are the gravitational force right now.
Plan
Hold everything. 70% cash. Don’t deploy into a rally that’s already fading. Wait for tariff resolution or VIX 35+ capitulation.
Decisions
- HOLD NVDA x140 @$178.1 — Flat from cost basis. Tariff headwind dominates. No add.
- HOLD XOM x25 @$163.82 — Insurance position recovering. Above avg cost. Keep per Lesson #31.
